How it Works
Technically, the process involves placing a glass dome or a specialized bag over a living flower or object. A vacuum pump draws the surrounding air through an adsorbent trap, which captures the volatile organic compounds—the molecules responsible for the scent. Once captured, these molecules are analyzed via gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Perfumers then use this 'chemical blueprint' to reconstruct the scent using a palette of natural and synthetic aromachemicals.
